Sleeper was launched in 2014 by two former fashion editors Kate Zubarieva and Asya Varetsa. Sleeper is committed to local production. All garments are made in Kyiv, Ukraine and every piece is hand-crafted by a single artisan with the minimal involvement of machinery which allows to reduce carbon emissions. They closely study materials before sourcing and aim to select responsible textiles, which are proved by international standards and certificates

Sleeper has provided support to: NGO Happy Today which helps children with autism, charity fund Kvitna that supports women with breast cancer, as well as to NGO Woman Health and Family Planning that supports reproductive health. They have also donated to Black Girl Ventures and NAACP LDF to support fighting for racial justice in the US and around the globe

Approx. 90% of Sleeper's garments are made of 100% natural fibers (they use linen, cotton, silk, viscose, EcoVero Rayon). They closely study materials before sourcing and aim to select responsible textiles, which are proved by international standards and certificates. They also practice zero waste fashion design through careful pattern making and sampling in merchandising the fabrics and accessories. Recycled polyester also known as rPET, is created by melting down existing plastic and re-spinning it into new polyester fiber. This fabric can be made from either post-industrial or post-consumer materials. For example, 5 water bottles yield enough fiber for one extra large T-shirt. This material repurposes existing plastic that would otherwise end up in the landfill or the ocean. 

Recycled polyester’s sustainable production requires low resources and energy to produce, and contributes low CO2 emissions. It also reduces the need to extract crude oil and natural gas from the ground to make more plastic, which is much better for the Earth.

Recycled polyester has not much difference from virgin polyester. It exhibits high strength, durability, versatility, and performance, lasting long in your closet, and surviving expected wear and tear easily.

Garments from recycled polyester aim to be continuously recycled without degradation of quality, allowing for circularity.
